Bronx Men

I remember the metal detectors from my first day in middle school. I never really thought of the damage it could do. My summers were filled with police stopping and frisking men just because they could. I saw people in the blue uniform touching my neighbors, whose faces were to the walls and whose hands were in the air. The news portrayed people like me as aggressive in ugly pictures with lines and numbers as a back drop. When we went out of our zone, all eyes were on us, making us feel like there’s something on our shirts. But there was nothing.

I was always afraid of aging. I knew that one day It would be me they stop.
